All I Want for Christmas
Author: Joanna Bolouri
Hi Everyone! Welcome to another blog tour. Now Halloween is over with, it’s time to start thinking about Christmas! Thank you so much to the author and Quercus Books for the copy of All I Want for Christmas and a space on the blog tour!
When Nick loses his job and is dumped by his glamorous but demanding girlfriend, he is forced to grudgingly accept work as a Santa at a local Christmas grotto. As his friends are getting married or promoted, Nick spends his days being terrorised by unfriendly elves and cried on by snotty, spoiled children.
Then he meets 4-year-old Alfie. All Alfie wants for Christmas is for his mum, Sarah, to be happy again. Moved by the boy’s selfless wish, Nick arranges a date between Sarah and his best friend, Matt. But as Sarah and Alfie become part of all their lives, Nick realises that happiness for Sarah and Matt might mean heartbreak for himself.
Jonna Bolouri’s new novel All I Want for Christmas is perfect to read for the upcoming festive season! It’s a very heartwarming funny story with great, relatable characters. I feel like I got to know the characters and really became invested in their lives, hoping things would work out for everyone.
We follow the story of Nick Harris, a 30-year-old lawyer whose life is collapsing around him. He reluctantly accepts a job as a shopping centre Santa after he is fired from his previous law firm. It’s not his dream job, listening to children Christmas list, overly observant boss and working with a hostile Elf, but when he meets 4-year-old Alfie he promises to grant his Christmas wish, to make his mum, Sarah, happy again after her husbands death.
It’s a very adorable love story and is kind of a love triangle between Nick, Sarah and his best-friend, Matt. Matt is one of my favourite characters in the book. He is charming, funny and a sarcastic at times, especially when the two boys are together. Their brotherly relationship is what made me love this book so much. They supported each other all the way through and as we learn about their pasts, its not hard to see why their friendship has lasted so long.
Nick proceeds to set Matt up with Sarah, thinking this is the best way to make her happy again. So while Matt and Sarah go on multiple dates, Nick plays babysitter to Alfie. Trying to push down his feelings for Sarah and his fatherly love for Alfie, Nick falls hard for Sarah. Being the amazing friend that he his, he continues to push down his love for Sarah in order to see her and Matt happy together.
Although I really liked Nick’s character, I felt like he was a bit much sometimes and his sarcasm and jokes seemed a bit forced.
Despite this, I loved this book from start to finish. The relationships between all the characters were great to read about and it was very heartwarming starting to see Nick turn his life around. If you love reading Rom-Coms, I would highly recommend this book for Christmas time!
Thank you again to the author and Quercus Books for the copy of the book and my space on the blog tour!
