Characters of the Year Tag: 2020 Edition

I’ve been a very busy bee recently, basically reading non-stop and also binge-watching Grey’s Anatomy. I had my first day back in the office on Wednesday and I was exhausted when I got home and ended up falling asleep on the sofa. The week is almost done though and I’m looking forward to a long weekend of reading!

On with the post! Thank you And On She Reads for tagging me in the Characters of the Year: 2020 edition, I read so many great books last year and I’m excited to share my thoughts on some of the characters.

Favourite Male Character of the Year

I have been thinking about this one too much and now all the male characters seem to be blurring together now! I have finally come to a decision and I’m going with Coriolanus Snow from The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes. I didn’t know what to expect from this book at first because we are meant to hate Snow. However. I really started to understand his character in the prequel and how all the events that happened led up to him being a cruel President. It’s more of a love/hate relationship I have with his character but still one of my favourites. It’s definitely interesting to read if you’ve read the hunger games. Don’t expect it to be like the trilogy though because it isn’t really. That was a lot longer than I intended, but yeah read the book if you haven’t!

Favourite Female Character of the Year

I didn’t have to think very hard about this because she popped into my head straight away, and that is Pippa Fitz-Amobi or Pip from A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. I just love the way her mind works. She is so clever and unbelievably brave. I wish I could be friends with her! I’m a big fan of murder mysteries so this book was right up my street. What made it even better was sassy, head-strong Pip!

Most Relatable Character of the Year

I really didn’t know what to put for this one even though I can relate to a lot of characters. I’ve chosen Aubrey from The Cousins because I instantly clicked with her and loved how sensible yet determined she was. I think that says a lot about me! I really enjoyed Milly and Jonah as well but I definitely related more to Aubrey.

Couple of the Year

I had to think about this for a minute and I’ve decided on Tilly and Leon in The Flat Share! I loved their relationship, especially how they communicated through sticky notes. It was extremely cute and writing this now, I really want to read it again. If you love adorable meet-cute romances then I can’t recommend this enough!

Villain of the Year

This is a weird one but my favourite villain had to be Rebecca! Even though she is dead she still has that power to control everyone’s lives and still terrorise them. We never see her but she is always there and I think that is the creepiest thing ever and I love it!

Most Disliked Character of the Year

So, Silas from The Doll Factory is a very creepy and weird man, he will definitely give you the heebie-jeebies. I found that I hurried through his chapters so I could get it over with and read Iris’ chapters. I just didn’t like his character, that’s it really.

Royal of the Year

I haven’t read a lot of books last year that had Royals in them. Out of the ones I did, Sara from The Devil and the Dark Water has to be my favourite. She is incredibly smart, brave and just wants the best for her daughter but she doesn’t want to be a noble as she can’t continue to help those in need around her, she does anyway. Her character was definitely a big factor in why I loved this book so much!

Sidekick / Non-Main Character Of The Year

I have been trying to think of this one for ages and the only characters are from the books I’ve read this year so far. So, we have a sneaky 2021 character slipping in here. My mind keeps going to Maritza from Cemetery Boys. I loved her because she is such a sassy, strong, confident female character and she has the best relationship with Yadriel, she’s always by his side making sure nothing happens to him.

Siblings Of The Year

So I started this on the 31st December 2020 and finished it in January 2021 so I’m counting it as 2020. Amari and Quinton Peters from Amari and the Night Brothers just melt my heart! They have such an amazing sibling bond full of trust and love. I can’t get enough of them. Quinton trusts Amari with everything and he isn’t scared one bit that she’s going to run and tell. Amari wouldn’t doubt Quinton at all, she believes everything he says even if it’s completely unbelievable.

So that is my characters of the year 2020 edition that have been writing for about 2 weeks and then forgot about. Here are my nominations but please feel free to give it ago if I’ve not tagged you, and also don’t feel obligated to do it if you have been tagged!
