Happy bank holiday weekend everyone! Can you believe I have done 3 posts this week? Go me! I feel like I have finally got back into the swing of things and I’m really loving writing reviews again. I think life just kind of got in the way a bit recently but everything is going a bit better at the moment now! Today I am back with another review as part of The Write Reads blog tour for The Dark Eyes series by M.R. Noble. Just read on to find out all my thoughts on the second book in the series, Dark Eyes: White Lies. You can read my review of book one, Karolina Dalca, Dark Eyes here before reading this one.

Synopsis

Blackmailed into espionage, Karo must lie to one man while she fights her cravings for another. As spy partners, Karo is forced to work with Andre, the vampire she swore to never trust again. The accidental vampiric bond they have threatens to bend her into submission. But is her will actually weak, or does she want an excuse to give in?

Roman’s patience teeters on Karo’s deception. Bitter, desperate, and vengeful, Karo dutifully completes her missions while withholding data from her uncle Loukin’s operation. She swore to get out from under his thumb, even if she has to break a few hands. Each assignment brings her closer to uncovering his goal, and using it against him, but she also draws closer to new foes. And they all want the same thing—Karo’s secrets.

My Review

Straight after I finished Karolina Dalca, Dark Eyes book one in the series, I was lucky enough to delve straight into this one and I was not disappointed! Take all the vampire & paranormal goodness, magic, and action packed fights from book one but add more supernatural beings, super-secret spy missions, more intense magical battles, treacherous betrayal and just so much more!

We are thrown straight back into Karo’s life exactly where we left off and I instantly got into the story and just myself not being able to put the book down. I live for the actual chaos that is her life. Since finding her Uncle and some other remaining family, she is now in a bit of a pickle and has to carry out these dangerous mission for her Uncle’s operation. Do you really think that stops Karo from getting & doing exactly what she wants? Of course not, this is Karolina Dalca we’re talking about here. It just makes the whole thing that bit more exciting, especially when her new spy partner is Andre, the vampire who she really can’t stand.

The love triangle romance I still absolutely love. It was taken a step further from the first book and a bit more apparent which I will never not like. Even though I love Andre I still found myself switching between him and Roman.  Is she going to choose the dangerous, untrustworthy vamp or her possessive werewolf child-hood friend?? What I did like is that there would have actually been some huge consequences depending on who she chose.

The action and intense battling is taken to a whole new level that I couldn’t tear my eyes away from. Seeing Karo use her powers to her full potential (or so we think?!) was so much fun to see. It was also great to see so many different magical powers from all of these magical beings new and old. It is definitely a bit more intense and gruesome than the first book which just adds to the urgency and this desperate fight for power.

Overall, Dark Eyes: White Lies is an exciting and suspenseful sequel that ticks all the boxes for me. It takes all the secrets and knowledge we learn from the first book and delves into them answering questions I had before. It’s incredibly well-written and just such an interesting and imaginative story that really pulls the reader in and then you know leaves them contemplating what to do next because of the HUGE cliff-hanger ending. I am impatiently waiting to see what happens next!
